Ack! By sheer luck I happened to see this post; sorry for the slow
response. I get Lugnet news via nntp, and I don't subscribe to
lugnet.cad so....

Well, I would love to render the Mantis or something, but I'm afraid I
just don't have the computing horsepower to do it. With the materials
and lighting effects that I'm using, to render more than a few bricks
can become very time-consuming. The simplest black-background render
that I've modeled (Scene #5 on BrickDreams,
http://www.users.kih.net/~micahx/brickdreams/) took about 8 hours to
render at 2048x1536 on my 300 Mhz G3, and it only has *one* brick in it.
White-background models don't take nearly as long, but the iBloc model
(Scenes #3 & 4) had six bricks and took about 2 hours to render. To
render something as complicated as say, the Mantis, would take an
eternity to render. Even simpler models could easily take days or weeks.
Maybe after I get my new titanium G4 Powerbook this summer.....
