You can now download LDView v0.7.5 (both source and binaries) from:

The major improvement in this version is the addition of primitive
substitution.  This provides both higher quality and increased rendering
speed (at least on my video card).  The higher quality is due to the fact
that smooth shading is used during the generation of the curved primitives
(cylinder, cone, torus).

Please note that unlike L3P, my substitutions do not add or remove any
polygons; they simply render them using different OpenGL commands, and
generate curved-surface surface normals to provide smooth shading.  True
cylinders, cones, and tori cannot realistically be rendered in real-time
using current 3D hardware.  (Needless to say, you must not have the "Flat
shading" option set if you want to see the smooth shading.)

I have not yet implemented a substition for the sphere primitives due to the
technical difficulties involved.  All of my current substitions are
mathematically generated, not hard-coded.  Despite this, they produce nearly
identical polygons to the current primitive files.  (The only difference is
in
the rounding: the primitive files round anywhere from 2 to 4 digits after
the decimal point.)

Most of the other changes were bug fixes.  However, one of these fixes was
to make keyboard shortcuts work again.  Now that they are once again
functional, you can use Ctrl+O to open a file from fullscreen mode on some
video cards, and Ctrl+Shift+P to bring up the Preferences panel.  These two
things can be quite useful.

As always, let me know if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions.
