Some enterprising ALEs have begun to make inventories of the parts bags actually
used by LEGO Factory (see
LEGO Factory on
BrickWiki).
The brick sets available in LDD 1.4 are stored as simple XML files, human
readable and editable. On the Mac, these are hidden inside the package in
Contents/Resources/database/bricks, one XML file (and corresponding PNG icon)
per brickset.
So, an enterprising individual could make up bricksets that correspond to the
actual bags. We could then much more easily design models in LDD that come out
reasonably priced.
But in this case at least, Im just the idea man I havent the time to do it,
and probably wont before my trip to Portugal later this week (where, I fear, I
wont have net access I expect signs of withdrawal by Monday). The actual
doing is far more important than the thinking... who will be the doer?
Best,
Joe

| (...) (URL) BrickWiki> now has a page on (URL) Custom LDD Part Sets>. This has been tested and, apart from the custom icon, seems to work just fine. So now it would be even easier for someone to create part sets that correspond to the (URL) Factory (...) (19 years ago, 31-Aug-05, to lugnet.cad, FTX)
