   1. Any model designed in LDD to actually look like something, ends up costing way more than it is worth, because you have to buy 20 (or more) times as many pieces as what the model actually uses.

Just like real life -minus, Brick Link, ebay, etc,..... but yes your right. I have always said, LEGO is smart about making their sets and parts collectible. They ussually don’t open the flood gate to full.

EXAMPLE: Food for thought

Like how much would something like this cost?

Fantastic Town creations by: jdavis

Just the price alone for the real model if broken down in retail terms would be emense! I do wonder how it would convert in LDD for a price, but the parts are not even in the current pallet.

Then look around and get floored by some of the other fantastic MOCs in the AFoL/ALE community when you think about the actual costs involved.

P.S. This makes me think of an interesting thought. Todd Lehman’s book will shed some light on models like this. The savy Fan of Lego knows where and how to aquire parts for models like this.

1. LEGOLAND Parks
2. Pick-a-Brick LEGO Stores
3. Trade / Buy at Fan Fests
4. Join a Train Club!
5. Brick Link - ebay
6. Your friends chilhood collections
7. Garage/flea market sales and aquisition
8. Help from LEGO
9. Co-builds - Club/Lego User Group - LUGs
10. Invitation only sales and project rewards from LEGO.

(...) Hundreds of dollars is what it should cost. What it would actually cost under the current LF system, even if the parts were available at all, would probably be thousands of dollars. I'm seeing about a factor of 25 waste here on realistic (...) (19 years ago, 30-Aug-05, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.general, FTX)
