As a fellow who occaisionally authors a part, I have begun to realize just how
much of my "authoring" time is spent calculating intersections of lines, quads
and the like.  For example, 30116.dat took so long not because of measuring or
coding, but because I had to calculate intersections of each edge line, and then
flesh out my linear "skeleton" with polygons.  And so I began thinking...

How feasible is it to create a utility (or plugin) which will take an existing
file and calculate the intersections of lines and polygons, and output a new
file with the following characteristics:

1.  Any type 2 or 5 lines from the original file that intersect other type 2, 3,
4, or 5 lines from that file are output as TWO type 2 or 5 lines:  one from the
first point to the intersection, and the second from the intersection to the
second point.

2.  Any type 3 or 4 lines from the original file that intersect type 2 or 5
lines from that file are output as several type 3 lines:  one from each edge to
the intersection.

This would be a REAL timesaver for parts authoring, or any primitive modeling in
general.  It would be helpful if the number of decimal places for the output
were customizeable.

ANY program that could do this would be wonderful, but it would be especially
helpful if it were a plugin for LDDP or a feature of MLCAD.

I hope this makes sense!

All you programming geniuses out there please respond!

I thank you all in advance for any and all help with this.

(...) Well, I was thinking about this while on vacation. Maybe I'll write a plugin if I have time. In the mean time I suggest trying out LCadCalc by Paul Easter. you can find it here: (URL) (21 years ago, 26-Aug-03, to lugnet.cad)
