This is a great question. I think a retail display case or a museum case would probably work best. It is an expensive solution for a LUG, but perhaps the venue has some available, or you can pick one up at a store that is going out of business.

You could also make a plexiglass barrier to allow viewers to get closer to the MOCs, and build it so that it could be used for displays other than vignettes. Another alternative may be to use a small plexigass aquarium. I guess it all depends on how many vigs will be displayed, and plans for future events.

Another idea might be to change the way the MOC is being presented. The biggest risk at shows I’ve been to is kids not understanding the toy/can-touch and display/cannot-touch difference. Stanchions and plexiglass both limit how close kids can get, but also reinforce that this is a display not a playground.

Maybe if vignettes were presented more as artworks, such as on separate pedestals with enough space in-between. I know the average fest doesn’t have the quantity of room to give each MOC its fair due, but maybe for a smaller display it could work. A side-effect of the pedestal would be raising the vignette to be eye level, rather than waist level, and make it easier to see the intricate detail and story-telling elements.
