Very creative and original! I like the way you’ve added a lot of your own personal touch instead of modeling a generic Santa. It’s very cute, and cute is hard to pull off in LEGO. Great job!

Thanks!

As another perspective, I made a Santa bust last year: http://bill.wards.net/blosxom/lego/models/sculpture/holidays/christmas-2003.html

Just out of curiosity, how did you build it? Personally, I usually start with the face. But this time, I did the hat first, starting as a cone and then having it fold over to a cone. I had meant to make a full body model but got stuck after finishing the head, and just stopped there.

I actually started with the shoulders. I knew I wanted somewhat rounded shoulders and the beard full and curved out. I laid down some 2x4s to judge the width of the shoulders, I kept moving them out until it felt right. I built up from there, at around 4-5 bricks up, I felt like the beard wasn’t far enough out, so I tore that section apart and rebuilt it, 3 or 4 studs deeper. I considered having the cap tassle on the baseplates, but decided that the shoulder would look better. (to me). For the nose, I experimented with a few ideas, before settling on that one with the slopes. I didn’t want the eyes to be too big, or to not fit on the face, but I lucked out and didn’t have to mess with it too much. That’s pretty much it.
