I also came up with this cube and I am quite positively sure that a lot of schleimers out there also came up with this... However, I normally build this one using four part number 4733 so every face of the cube is connected to the core by two studs, just like this:

SNOT

In this case however, it looks better with no grove on the side of the tile (like part 3068 type A) or with the use of a 2x2 plate instead
