Yes, 4 x 8 is the standard size for sheets of plywood. One alternative is to
get (2) 4x8 sheets, and have them cut down to (2) 3x8 sheets. That would put
only one seam...oh, wait..puts the seam in the wrong direction... ok, change
that...get (2) sheets, have them cut down to (2) 4x6 sheets (just 2 feet off the
long end of the board). That would put the seam vertically along the height.
Bracing the back with some 1x4 or 2x4's should do it. Also, for mounting, Check
out Adrian and Eric Harshbargers technique--from what I understand, it works
very well, and does little damage to pieces.
