  That ship is awesome!

Thanks!

I especially like the  (what I presume to be) giant anti-shipping
weapons mounted right above the launch bay.
Are those pieces mounted on the side of the ship hatches for
fighters, missiles, or are they something entirely different?

If you're referring to the green disks in the row that has the black strip
running through it, those are actually guns mounted in open broadside ports.
They're designed to be more powerful than the top mounted turrets, and fire
like the forward two do in this pic:

Like an old Nelsonian battleship, my capital ships carry their main
armaments this way, protecting them from damage as much as possible.

You seem to have conserved a lot of pieces by using that SNOT
technique, now that's engineering I can, and will steal, err, use. ;)

Actually, I've used more pieces in building this ship than any other space
vessel I've constructed. The tricky thing about SNOT is that you have to
build 'outward' to achieve the shape you're looking for. I'm from the 'it
should be able to move without falling apart' school of capship building, so
that means I have to use a lot of supports to build out the hull into that
shape.

It's also a great way of breaking up the blocky feel of a ship.

That's the pay off! The curve SNOT gives you is quite effective, I think.

One complaint though, you've made me dislike all of the 90° angles on
my large ships, especially since you appear to have about the same
amount of pieces that I do. That was QUITE inconsiderate of you dude. =-)

Ha ha! Well, we all go through building evolutions. Trust me, you'll enjoy
the change, though it might cost you a few of your capships to get it just
right.
