I think it can be said that Helos have thier uses. Namely against slower
ground targets. One of my more favorite stories from the Gulf was an A-10
flying along and came upon a Hind gunship. Long story short; Hind turned
into very small chunks by A-10. My point: Even the slowest, most inept air
to air fighting aircraft is going to win in an air battle with helos, pilots
being equal of course.
However Helicopters, or Hovers for us sci fi minded bunch, have their
place as extrememly versatile aparatus. They can deliver a more precise
attack than a jet, deliver soldiers and equipment quickly and safely, also
they can be revamped to perform multible tasks. (Huey anyone? Gunships to
medical birds)
Helos/Hovers are really just a *part* of a fully functioning military
unit. Not better than or worse.
