Try this link, http://www.keveney.com/gnome.html . I did a search on Gnome
rotary, as that was the most famous one I can think of.
In short, the cylinders and crankcase rotate around the hollow, offcenter
crankshaft. The intake valve is in the bottom of the piston, and the
fuel/air is supplied through the hollow crankcase.
