I do have a question however, isnt a howitzer some form of mortar? In the
game Age of Empires III it is an improved mortar, so Im a bit curious.

This page: http://www.americanrevolution.org/artillery.html has a pretty good
explanation of the difference between morters, howitzers, and cannons.
Basically a morter is a fixed piece that looks a bit like a really thick-skinned
bowl or cup, a howitzer is a more mobile piece that can vary its angle, and a
cannon is a big heavy gun, more along the lines of the standard LEGO pirate
cannon.
