OK, I got up early today and managed to get the photos from last weekend's GMLTC
showing in La Crosse posted... including the long awaited (mostly) finished
U.S.S. Missouri model. It's nearly 8 feet long, which prompted me to build a
custom stand for it (incorporating something like 50,000 2 x 4 light gray bricks
in the making). Once the finish touches to the ship are completed, the stand
will be finished off with a plexiglass enclosure.  Anyway... here's the photos
for now...

P.S. The photos were at the very end of the show... otherwise the whole layout
was mobbed with people!

Dan-

As expected, it's gorgeous.  The Ulithi (pacific) 44/45 camoflauge came out
really nicely, though some of the details are hard to make out because of the
shake in the images.  I'm looking forward to seeing more detailed shots taken at
your leisure!  The Bofors mounts look extremely good, and though the 20s came
out a little on the crowded side it gives a lovely impression of the general
obsession with AA characteristic of the era.  The deck is gorgeous and I had to
look several times to make out the "jogs" in deck-studding despite already
knowing they were supposed to be there.  The joint between the hull and the deck
is handled beautifully.

Are there any areas remaining unfinished, where you intend to revisit and
revamp?  I know I shouldn't ask if you're unhappy with anything, but I know
you're a perfectionist, so I will.  :)

Finally, are the turrets motorized?  Does anything "connect" through the base
into the ship, or is it "merely" a (gigantic) stand?  I had no idea the stand
was intended to be that enormous.  Wow.

all best

Lindsay - it's always nice to hear you opinions and thoughts. Being so busy with
my work this past year and a hald has left me starved for building / discussion,
obsessing over the brick. I think I'm finally "over" my pissed-offedness about
the color changes and see it more like having two additional shades (if not
crappy ones) of gray to work with...

Anyway, yes, I plan to have more pictures of it posted soon. I just moved to a
new house, so busting out the old tripod is still a little low on the priority
list right now. There are also still a lot of small details I want to add, which
begs the question: when is a model really "done?"

I agree with the lackluster 20mm mounts as they are basically stolen from sing
gun mount from the Cleveland Crusier model. I'll probably redesign them into
something better (twin mounts for starters). A good chunk of the deck is still
missing the grill tile "planking" too. This was never a part of my plan, but I
did a small section just to see how it looks.. and it looked way nicer than
having studs showing.

As for the stand, no, it has no hidden motors inside. I never actually
considered motorizing the guns, mainly due to the space inside the ship's
structure being so cramped. The stand was a result of not having a table long
enough to display the ship and having a few thousand gray bicks sitting idle. It
was never part of my original plan and will demolish it once inspiration and
time allow for the next project... like an Essex class carrier built to minifig
scale, or something equally as ridiculous.

Speaking of ridiculous projects, what has become of the battlecrusier? Is it
still together or are you rebuilding it into something bigger?

Anyway, cheers for look-see and the comments!

Dan
