Anthony-
I really like your stuff in general. I'm a big fan of the technical/background
info that you provide.
The seawall, though, is in a class by itself for its originality. It's great to
see such a great implementation of a brilliant idea. I'd love to see a display
of *both* parts of the installation together. I'm sure it would a little work
to build an above-and-below waterline diorama, but it would be worth it, I'm
sure.
Okay, now my critiques/questions :-(
"Goods:" I love all the details: Torpedo tube hatch, living space amenities, the
central access ladder, the desalinator and the odd control panels and bits of
equipment here and there. This is exactly what it would be like when you're
cramming a lot of stuff into a confined space. Nice job!
"Others:" I don't see the utility of a .50 cal operating below the waterline,
unless the projectiles have their own propulsion. Yes, it *can* fire through
the water like that, but the drag created by the seawater seems like it would
cut the range down so much that it wouldn't be an effective weapon. I guess you
could say the same for the anti-shipping cannon, but perhaps with more "oomph"
from a larger weapon, you could get reasonable range out of it (plus, it just
looks really cool.) The other thing I'm not clear on is how you load the
torpedos from storage. Maybe it wasn't modeled, (so just tell me to shut up),
but otherwise, it looks like you need some way of hoisting them up into the tube
room.
All-in-all, this (and the Seawall Towers) is one of the best concepts I've seen.
Really superb job!
Live it up,
-sb
PS: The "Guns of Navarone" Playset had to be the single best set of "Army Guys"
ever invented...we can kick that to off-topic if you want to talk more. :-)
