Joel - sorry for taking so long to reply!  I moved shortly after posting the
link and this is the first I've had a chance to visit Lugnet since then.

I did a lot of of experimenting with floating suspension and ran into all kinds
of problems with the gears locking up (or the boogies flipping over!). The main
problem is fitting all the extra pieces in to make it work and still keep the
desired scale. I admit that I gave up for the sake of design simplicity,
although I won't say it can't be done!
