Kudos to our own Janey Cook for coordinating the room and for keeping micro-scale in the spotlight.

Thanks Ashley, but the real credit goes to all the amazing builders that are adopting and adapting Micro to levels that are ever expanding and increasing in detail and design. I was blown away with the quality of the work presented this year. Thanks to everyone that displayed.

Nonsense! For a long time Micro was that thing that everyone should do, but no one really did. I started building Micro because Janey cajoled me into it last year, and then I realized how much fun it was! Every year there is a coordinator who takes on the job and makes it more than it was before(1). Last year, Janey took on coordinating Micro and turned it from a fringe theme to one of the most popular.

Wow, Lenny, thank you so much.

Your words are more appreciated than you may realise.

I also wanted to thank you for inviting me to guest judge the space awards, that personal tour and the open discussion with you, Dan, and Felix opened me up to things I had just not realised.

After the Fest discussions, in the hotel lobby monday morning, (just as the ones we had prior) led me to think this is something we should try to continue with all themes. What a cool concept it is to have someone “out of the theme” get involved in judging and I found there are many benefits to both judge and theme. When you involve those out of their normal theme such as new awareness for that theme (like what I learned about greebling) or to avoid favouritism, or even just a fresh eye from someone that is not so emotionally involved with the core group of builders.

Personally I encourage other Fests, and in planning for nexts years BrickFest for us to give that process some discussion.
