While a couple of the new Designer sets do come with the new click
plates, they all appear to have been introduced in Star Wars sets.  The 1999
Y-Wing cockpit mounting was the first instance of a top-mounted click plate,
which has also been used in at least ten other Star Wars sets.  The male and
female end-mounted click plates were both used in the 2002 AT-TE.  I still
haven't had a chance to open mine yet, but you can see a pair of them
attached to the rear cargo door on the back of the box.  But yes, TLC is
getting the idea that tight is sometimes better than loose, especially when
it comes to posability.  This is the reason why even though the left
shoulders of Lewa and the six Turaga are mounted with a loose pin, all of
the Bohrok Va and Toa Nuva have left shoulders mounted with friction pins.

Probably because they are released in January, the Star Wars sets have
seen the roll-out of a wide variety of new parts, including, oddly enough,
the Toa torso (Technic Stormtrooper) and the Bohrok faceplate (Technic Darth
Vader).

(...) Dude I'm taking about the 1 x 2 plate with TWO studs and the click hinge on the end. That is COMPLETELY new to my knowledge. The 1 x 2 with ONE stud the click hinge on top is pretty common now. I feel you though, thanks. t (21 years ago, 7-May-03, to lugnet.build.mecha)
