I do not care if it is 'OMG! I puked on my keyboard that was so ugly!' or if
it is more like 'Sweet, that is the BEST...' as long as you give me
feedback.  I really am trying to improve my building, and I can't really fix
problems I do not know about, correct?

I'll agree with you here, but I'd like to point out that emulating others'
styles as a test run to
improve your own style also has it's advantages. I started learning mecha
from Colin Gutierrez
and Karim Nassar and it took quite a while before I found my own style. That
style is always
evolving, always learning from others, always in flux. That's also why I
don't post as much as I
used to-I'm too busy pushing the envelope with building to post most times.
My form of posting
takes the form of working on the sidebar and offering up new resources to
all the builders rather
than critiquing one.

Ahh yes.  I actually based my early stuff off Ron&Randy Perovich, was
GREATLY influenced by Mark Sandlin and Mladen Pejic's older stuff.  I even
currently gather ideas on how to do certain things for b-tech from Burkhard
Schloemer.  My 'personal' flait is more in my custom mechs, or mecha styles.

All are excellent choices! Some are better at modeling while others excel at
joints, but you've
picked a well rounded group to emulate. Early on I had more of an
appreciation for established
models than I do now. I, too, prefer to see original works than yet another
rendition of a Madcat
(even if they are cool). Keep up the personal custom mechs-you'll get more
responces that way.

Thanks much for the Sidebar, btw, it helps give recognition to some people
who get 'buried' under posts.  Plus it is cool to see your model in lights :<D

:) That's the point. Thanks Jon Palmer for the inspiration there and expect
a more streamlined
sidebar shortly. I keep changing little things on it so as to help make it
more comprehensive, but
to my eye it looks too cluttered. That will change shortly.

Well, my little rant is over...now that I have guilt-tripped you into
realizing how lax you all have been, hit me with the critiques! :<D

No guilt-just the reality that only so much can be done in the time I've got
available each day and
I'd rather spend that time helping many folks at once.

I am sorry if I worded that wrong.  I by no means expect replies to all my
posts, and I know you are busy here and at BZpower, so least of all did I
expect you!  Keep up the great work with the sidebar, again, it is cool.
Also, how might we get back the MotW feature?

Your wording seemed fine to me. I just happened to have a bit more time
available today than
usual so I responded. As far as MotW is concerned, it looks like the
majority of those who've
emailed me about it prefer to have the Highlighted Builders instead. I'll
happily bring it back if we
get a steady stream of nominations, but since I've only gotten one nominee
in the past two
months, I suspect MotW might be on it's last legs.

This brings up another point: I'm always open to adding more features to the
sidebar and I'm
enen more interested in this if people are willing to help out with any
bigger chores that might
arise. For instance, there's a project I started a few months back that I
haven't worked on lately
due to time constraints. It's located here:
http://news.lugnet.com/build/mecha/timeline The idea
is simple-a timeline of all the cool events that have happened to
.build.mecha since the
beginning of the group. Initial posts by many mecha builders, some of the
landmark creations
that have appeared, etc. With .build.mecha approaching 10,000 posts, it's a
large job to be sure,
but one that I think could be useful to the community at large. I'd have no
problem passing this
job on to someone else IF they feel they are proficient enough with FTX to
do this.

Comments? Ideas? Flames? ;)
