Eric - It is really awesome to see how this new robot is coming together! I
guess I haven't look into .mecha enough, because this is the first time that
I've seen this new one.

Hey Mark! We Missed you at Bricks West 2003!
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=34199

I did go back through old posts to get caught up on your construction. In
doing this, I came across these pics on Brickshelf. Have you described what
is going on with here. If not, could you fill me in?

My specific questions are:
1) What is the black axle piece and the gray "tire" looking nuts. Where did
they come from?
2) What is the purpose of this construction? Is this a design that makes the
turntable more stable? (less play in the movement?) Do you use this for the
waist pivot point?

I've been working on this all mechanical robot for about 8 months.
These pictures show a technique I use to keep the technic turntables bound
together using the threaded axle and nut. This way they will not pry apart
due to the forces imposed on the joints.

The Upper Arm Rotate, and Upper Arm Shoulder Rotate use this technique.
The Hips make use of the technique as well.
As to where the part comes from, I forgot. Others have pointed it out in the
past. It comes from an old Technic Set(s).

The waist pivot point is bound together with Technic Beams, no threaded axles.
The ankle twist uses technic beams and a series of "C" clamps that I created
from alternating plate and tile sandwiching. All joints need to use some
sort of reinforcements to help manage the weight and power transfers.

I make my journey towards the knee.

Next steps:

Knee build
Upper Leg rotate
~Blend~

Waist pivot checks
Final detail

I have the upper leg rotate modules completed. I just need to build the knees.

YAY!

Can't wait to see it come together!

Thanks bro.

(...) See: (URL) Eric, you know I tend to quote Jama with Rob Zombie but another song poped into my head seeing how this progress. It's a classic by Black Sabbath: "Has he lost his mind? Can he see or is he blind? Can he walk at all, Or if he moves (...) (21 years ago, 16-Apr-03, to lugnet.build.mecha)
