A Mech Hand Idea

I apologize if this idea has already been used by someone. I periodically
check .mecha for cool creations and joint ideas, and while I'll admit some slip
by me, I usually see most of the MOCs posted here.
Anyway, I was fiddlin with the few bits of LEGO I have laying on my desk, and
came up with this idea.
I've seen a lot of Mechs using minifig legs as fingers, which I think looks
pretty neat, and it got me thinking. There must be a lot of unused torsos out
there. Maybe there aren't, maybe people have thought of ways to use them. In
any case, I've seen the hand design that uses minifig arms as fingers, and I
liked that too.
But what if someone wanted to use up their torsos, and wanted to use minifig
legs as fingers for a beefier design, but wanted more dexterity like in the
hand design with minifig arms?
They might come up with something like this:

It's nothing more than a minifig without a head and one arm, using the neck pin
on the minifig torso as rotational wrist joint.
They might of course want to color coordinate it with their mech.
Again, I'm sorry if this is an old idea, but I felt like sharing.

One problem however: while it does look quite nice in the open position you show, it looks kind of wonky in a closed position, and doesn't really grip well.
