Alrighty, I have come up with the catagory outlines after reading the
suggestions here and the e-mail I received today. There are seven (7)
catagories right now. maybe more if you guys can think of some more fun ones.

As for the idea of mechs and mecha split into two groups, I really don't
think thats what I want to do. I don't see the creations here as mechs or
mechas. I see cool creations! I think we need to stop drawing that line
between those two styles because I keep seeing that line blur more and more.
It is REALLY too hard to define a creation strictly a mech or a mecha.

Really like Zac's thoughts, the pics and the backstory are crutial. I say we
have at least five (5) photographs or computer generated images. You also
must include story to highlight the creation's attributes, PLUS construction
notes; how you built it, difficulties, inspiration etc.

Ok here are my ideas for the judging catagories.

Main Catagories:
1. Military/Combat-Oriented Mechs/Mechas Under 8" Tall
2. Military/Combat-Oriented Mechs/Mechas Over 8" Tall
3. Non-Military/Utilitarian Mechs/Mecha Under 8" Tall
4. Non-Military/Utilitarian Mechs/Mecha Over 8" Tall
Fun Catagories:
5. Most Useless Mech/Mecha
6. Ugliest Color Combination Mech/Mecha
7. I Gots Da Biggest Gun Sucka

Now let me explain the fun catagories.

The Most Useless Mech/Mecha is one that has no purpose. All the creation I
see here serve a purpose and do their job. I want to see a lazy white trash
mecha that doesn't do anything all day but sit in his hanger and watch Pay
Per View Wrestling, or a drunkard street urchin mecha, stuff like that.

The Ugliest color pretty sums itself up. Use what ever colors or however
many colors you want, we are going for gaudy 1970's bell bottoms in the back
of your grandma's closet ugly!

I Gots Da Biggest Gun Sucka is kinda my gangsta thug catagory. The one with
biggest, most destructive gun wins. The catch is the mech/mecha must be able
to fully hold all the weight of the gun on it's body. I don't want to see
some huge 12" death ray next to your teeny 4" origami mecha unless that
origami mecha can hold that planet blasting gun of destuction.

As for prizes I was thinking of gift cards to Wal-Mart for the winners to
buy some cool LEGO stuff and a can of SPAM for the second place contestants!

Ok that's all I got for now If you like these ideas or you utterly hate
them, drop me an e-mail or reply to this post. If I get enough interest I
will start next week on the webpages and full legal-like rules!

I gots DA BIGGEST freaking gun would be totally lopsided if Klaupacius (bryan) entered one of his gundams, perhaps mecha/gun ratio would be good? That's my favorite category. DEFINATELY going to have to enter this... Awaiting rules, Lego bulk (...) (22 years ago, 30-Sep-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

quick question, do the mechs have to be in minifig scale. big gun contest = 12" long gun, but the mech is in nanofig scale... ooooohhhhhhhh, I've been waiting for this one. An honest to God excuse to make big, exorberant, excessive, big, beautiful (...) (22 years ago, 3-Oct-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)
