Amputated Throwbot parts?

Having just spent the last two and a half hours fighting with the ball
portion of the ball and socket pieces from the Throwbot set, I'm ready to
commit heresy and chop one of the balls off. (yes, I know this is a family
forum. 8) )
The only thing I use these sets for is mecha joints, and I've got a ton of
them. Anyone else broken down and amputated your Throwbot joints yet?

| (...) with using throwbot limbs for mechs is that they limit the size of the mech and creativity in limb design. I wish that TLG would make brick-based modifications on the pieces- such as a ball with axl fused to the side of a 2x1 brick and a (...) (24 years ago, 2-Jun-00, to lugnet.build.mecha)
