Oh, well you said "what happens if it takes a major hit there?" so I
interpreted that you were talking about armour.
My write up has a blurb about the following... I added some more details to
this explaination though...
Opening panels are located on each side of the chest. Inside each chest cavity
is a small radome (for detecting enemies even more accurately), various jammers
(the clear 1x1 light particularly is meant to be a [1] Shtora-like optical
infrared jammer which can stop ATGM-like munitions) and two countermeasure
tubes (can launch CHAFF, decoys, smoke grenades, and flares).
All of these systems are reliable, but not foolproof. Obviously, a well aimed
rail gun slug could hit a critical system. A smarm of missiles could overwhelm
the countermeasure systems. A large explosion would pretty much rip the mecha
apart too, as well. ;-)
I didn't mention it in the webpage write-up, but obviously the mecha would
utilize composite armour and ERA (Explosive Reactive Armour) in key locations,
to protect itself.

Yeah that is an option too. The CAN is a high-explosive missile, capable of
defeating most threats quite easily.

Believe me, I already do; I love reading sites devoted to military weapons.
Good stuff. :-D
