  Nosrai light mecha

Here it is, my latest mecha. It was a influenced some by Heavy Gear, especially the engine. The engine is a modified three year old design. I borrowed the elbow design from Chris Maddison's Maelstrom. I carried that over to the leg to create a (...) (22 years ago, 4-Feb-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Nosrai light mecha

Thanks Eric. The helmet was the first or second thing built. The modified engine might have been first. I just made a new set of hands. I'll have new images up in a day or so. The other mech in the comparison shot is the Tyr. Comparison shots use (...) (22 years ago, 4-Feb-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Nosrai light mecha

Travis, I checked out the Nosrai, what I like best is the way the head covers the minifig when it closes. The feet are interesting too. Hey this is tough for me to say cause I make a point of always trying to be nice, but ugg! the hands! not the (...) (22 years ago, 5-Feb-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Nosrai light mecha

(...) the katana is cool. Minifig legs for hands may be played out, but they're great for holding stuff well. I think if they weren't so overused, they could still be used to advantage on just the right mecha, IMO. Later, Chris (22 years ago, 5-Feb-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Nosrai light mecha

This is the first mecha I've gotten to kneel. Of course, my previous mecha weren't built with kneeling in mind. I don't know what to call that melee weapon, but it's my first success at that type. As for the hands, I used that design b/c it works, (...) (22 years ago, 5-Feb-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Thanks. Nice to see you like the joints :) Travis Dickinson (...) (cut) (...) (22 years ago, 5-Feb-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Nosrai light mecha

Depending on size, I try to get decent elbow and knee movement; good hip and ankle movement for a leg forward stance or legs apart stance; and arm rotation along each axis. I will sacrifice some movement for stability. The kneeling stance was a pain (...) (22 years ago, 5-Feb-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Nosrai light mecha

Thanks. Actually, this color scheme is possible. The only problem is that to get most of the sand green parts, you need the Statue of Liberty sculpture ($200 - ouch). I'm sure the other common colors would look good in place of the sand green. (...) (22 years ago, 5-Feb-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Thanks. There are few gaps, but you have to look for them. Travis Dickinson (...) (22 years ago, 5-Feb-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Nosrai light mecha

I would like to thank everyone for their compliments and suggestions. I am in the process of implementing those suggestions with a few changes of my own. Version 2 will be up later this week. Version 1 will remain b/c I still like it. Travis (...) (22 years ago, 5-Feb-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Nosrai light mecha

I'm glad you like it. As for the SNOT design, esp. around the arm, I didn't plan it like that. It just happened. Version 2 will change some of that. I'm trying not to make drastic design changes. Travis Dickinson (...) (22 years ago, 5-Feb-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) designs are ingenious. ;-) -Chris (22 years ago, 5-Feb-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Nosrai light mecha

(...) Ah, a highly underused technique, IMO. But then, lots of builders aren't that concerned with extreme articulation-- it's also hard to manage, IRL. But, I see it all the time in Hobby Japan, so I often think about implementing it in Lego-- (...) (22 years ago, 5-Feb-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Nosrai light mecha

(...) shoulders were a little chunkier but that is just my mecha style coming through. (example 2 1x2 inverse slopes and 2 2x2 double inverse slopes with that 2x2 plate on top) But this thing is really cool. I'd love to see it built out of bricks. (...)   Re: Nosrai light mecha

Not bad, not bad. I like the hatches. The head piece especially. Everything looks like it would seal up nicely too. legs and feet are pretty darn cool as well. What I think needs work, is the shoulders. A little too square for my tastes. You know? (...) (22 years ago, 6-Feb-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Nosrai light mecha

Hey neat, I like this one, loks like it has good poseability and is really nicely detailed. I love the backpack as well. The sword using katana's is a nice touch as well. :^) May I suggest not using so many upside down plates and such? It seems to (...) (22 years ago, 6-Feb-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)
