I wasn't exactly, but I then, I don't disagree with your assessment. I think
there are a few contributing factors: one is the camera lens, which, at
close range causes a wide angle distortion effect-- if I hold the camera
above the waist, the top is emphasized; below, the bottom. Another is the
length of the arms-- I think if I were to shorten the forearms by 3 or even
2 studs, there would be a world of difference in the perception of the leg
height. Lastly, from the front, it's difficult to see the total leg length,
as it 'kicks back' in a quadruped fashion.
