worm gear on its shaft, making joints more solid. But the real secret to
using them to make a super rigid joint is... nope, can't tell you ;-)

I will be dead honest here, I have no idea what is a 70's retro style super
robot.  Could please throw in a few names of what you have in mind?

Mazinger, Getta Robo, Grendizer, Gekiganger, well that's not a real one.
