P.S. Technically you can't sell a model replica of a "Valkyrie"
or "Zaku" without infringing on copyrights and trademarks
as I don't think these are public domain.
If you name them something else to avoid the trademark
that would be ok, given that copyrights may give latitude for
an inexact copy using lego as opposed to making a plastic
mold from some other model kit - made by a company that licensed
the design and trademark. (Remember how BattleTech got burned
for selling renamed models of blatantly cloned Robotech mecha).

You are very correct.  I cannot label a toy "valkyrie" or "Zaku" if they are
trademarked or copyrighted.  But in this case they are not.  If you go to
the US Patent and Trademark Office and do a search you will note that "Zaku"
is nowhere to be found and "Valkyrie" is used by Honda for a motorcycle and
it's related products, and Konami for a game.  Big West used to have rights
to the name but it is what the office refers to as "dead".

You'll note that I do not use the names Macross and Gundam(well except one
place, i'll fix that).  Those names are well documented and owned by Big
West and Sunrise respectively.  I avoid the use of those names on my site
like the plague.

As for the likeness of my designs to other product, I think I'm far enough
removed for now.  I'm reading up on my copyright law so we'll see.  But
don't you worry, if I am in violation of someone's else's property, I will
definitely make every effort to honor their property.

Glad you like the site.  Oh I linked to your site I hope you don't mind.

(...) This is a very professional site. I like the lanky quality of your mecha, sort of stylized like they leapt right out of an anime cell. They make super cool sets. You should be able to sell a bunch of these. P.S. Technically you can't sell a (...) (23 years ago, 5-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)
