Thanks Pat, I built the Saidin Mecha first, and it was by far my best
micro-fig scale mecha to date.  I recently tore apart all my other stuff
(X-wing, B-wing, most of my VO mechs), and I decided to try another
mecha in the same vein as the Saidin.  The resulting Reaper is now my
new favorite.  I think the legs of the Saidin are a bit nicer, but
overall I like the Reaper best. Surprisingly, I built them almost
entirely differently, but I decided to keep the same color scheme.  If I
had some more white plates and wing plates, I would probably have used
white on the Reaper instead of grey, but Staw Wars Lego has given me
lots of grey.  Overall the only similarities are in the ankle joints,
the thighs, the hip joints, and the front "skirting" armor plates.
Otherwise they are entirely unique.   These mechs are tremendously
posable too, though I would like to work out some more posability in the
arms and wrists. I wish TLC would make some stiff ball joints on technic
friction pegs.

BTW, I can't wait to see your new mecha.

I have to admit Dave that your designs have be an inspriration to me in
building my on mecha.  Over Easter weekend, I took some time to start working
on different types of hands, feet and especially the joints.  I was wondering
if you would care to enlighten me about the construction of the hip joint in
these two models, that is one thing that remains a mystery to me, due to your
effective use of "skirting" armor (which really looks cool by the way!).

keep up the god ideas flowing!

I have a tough time describing the parts I use, but I'll give it a whirl. I've found the best hip joints are the black technic peg hinges. They consist of 2 parts, on one end of each part is a half technic peg and the other is a 3 or 2 finger hinge. (...) (24 years ago, 24-Apr-00, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.build)
