Eric,
It was a pleasure to meet you. After all the talking online and the emails
in the background we finally met. Normally I don't share personal stuff
online, but you have inspired me to give my account of the weekend:

I pick Dave up at his wife's work Friday and we drive to my house. We know
Eric is in Lawndale with Dan, and Chris is driving down from Berkley. Dave
and I get to my house and I'm all excited because nobody has seen my new
Worm. Dave is impressed = Bryce is happy :-) Dave and I have developed not
only a friendship but a respect for each other as Lego builders, so I was
hoping to suprise him a bit.
Next Chris shows up with ALL his Lego, really you guys all of it. He is also
happy to see the Worm done. We all talk for a while and wait for Dan and
Eric to show up.

...okay this story is boring me, so I'll skip to what's really on my mind.

Eric,
Meeting you was one of those strange life defining moments. In so many ways
I felt like I was meeting not only my Lego brother, but a true friend for
life. I remember hugging you hello and thinking "Van Gogh meets Rembrant" or
something equally silly. We connect with words, thoughts, forms, art. Some
of our conversations about why we make Lego mecha and how go to the core of
who we are. Both our Lego models and our motivations for making them are so
similar it's eerie. Not being able to stop thinking about shapes,
connections. The way we were talking and just able to connect. I didn't have
to explain the basics of Lego...or the advanced stuff. We could just free
flow with ideas. I've really only been able to relate this stuff to Dave.
How did you put it "it struck deep"? or something close? I can't say it
better. Thank you so much for making the trip. I tell myself sometimes when
I feel silly for "playing" with Lego "It's only Lego and yet it's so much
more". You truly understand this. Thanks again.

Okay guys that's what I really wanted to say. Here's some other stuff:

Eric's models: Forget it. You've NEVER seen anything like them. Forget
pictures, forget video (which Eric sent me). With Sophie's stuff it IRL or
nothing. I can say without reservation that Eric is light years ahead of
what I'm doing...light years. His stuff is soooo complex on so many levels.
Although his non-Lego buddys named him "Legomaster" years ago, he is truly a
master of the art. I was looking at the Red Bot yesterday for about a half
hour. Just sitting there looking at it...there are no words for this
creation. It simply defies description. I couldn't say enough about Eric's
stuff.

Then to have Dave, Chris, and Dan there too was awesome. How wonderful to
share with like minds. Dave and I have talked so much about Lego. He
understands concepts so well. Like Eric said the man is a genius. Dave is
constantly pushing me and giving me inspiration. I truly wouldn't be making
stuff like I am without Dave.

Chris is very articulate and super super smart. Chris makes me laugh because
I'm sort of from the hip and he's reserved and calm. When Chris speaks you
get a sense that it's well thought out and logical. Oh and Chris also makes
me laugh because he thinks that his models aren't very good. Chris you have
no idea how wild some of your joint ideas are. For the other mecha makers,
Chris has a new way to make a leg turn out that can work from a 10" mecha to
a 24" mecha equally. And NO ONE has made anything even similar...not in
strength nor articulation.

Then there's Dan. Dan's one of those guys that I wish I could spend more
time with, but life and such being what it is we just never seem to meet up.
Mostly my fault as I have a busy family life and long work hours. Dan is
always cheerful and joking. His sense of design is second to none. And now
he's a dad...congrats again Dan!

Then we had the Lugola meeting with all the great people there. Seeing Brad
and Shelly's new baby! Meeting Ace who is a fellow mecher. Brian Stokes who
was my part pimp for the last project. Henry quiet as always :-) . And Jimmy
was there sans part bins and in a suit looking sharp. Too many others to
remember. I'm I sorry if I missed you. And of course the Michons who hosted
the meeting. The Ted Burgers were great!

Finally Legoland. Being there with Eric and Dave was great. Fellow builders
understanding Lego.

It was so great to share ideas and thoughts with you Eric. All my best to
you and Cindy. Thank her for letting us borrow you for a bit. Thank you
again for the wonderful visit and all the memories. Talk to you soon, I'm sure.

Later,
Bryce
