Hi all! It's been quite a while since I've had anything new to contribute.
Well, I have been building, but I'm certainly not as industrious as some of
you. One project that I was working on I decided to scrap. I love Gundam
mecha, and I had it in my head to try to reproduce most of the main mecha
from the series, starting with the RX 78 GP01. The problem I keep running
into with Gundam though is that to make a really good looking gundam head,
you've got to build pretty big. Each Gundam I built would get bigger and
bigger, and I find that when I build mecha in large scale, the results
aren't generally as polished, and I don't have as much incentive to build
because it takes so long to accomplish anything. Well my GP01 was coming
along nicely, looking very accurate, but I didn't like working on it. So,
after a couple months of slow progress and generally not enjoying building,
I decided to scrap the whole idea and try something completely different.
Enter The Mecha Factory. First, I built the LM-001 Warhammer heavy mecha.
I am very happy with how it turned out, a completely original design not
based on any particular anime series. Well, I had a new mecha, but I needed
a way to display it that would really stand out. So, I began building a
diarama. It took pretty much all of my gray plates and bricks, and uses
probably 50 or more castle walls (all conveniently hidden in the exterior of
the walls). I think you'll like it.
With a new mecha, and a cool diarama to photograph it in, I made the
decision to start a completely new lego site, The Mecha Factory. I
originally thought to only incorporate new original mecha, but realized that
I needed more content, or it would have been pretty dull for a while. So, I
pulled out my images of my best mecha, many of which are larger than
previously posted, and began incorporating them into the site as well.
I want to thank Sun Yun for giving me permission to use the name: The Mecha
Factory. I had much of the graphics already done, when I discovered that he
had already used that name as one of his brickshelf directories,
coincidentally a trio of mecha based loosely on my own Zaku design. Sun was
nice enough to let me keep the name, and I appreciate it.
Please let me know what you think of the new site. Be patient, the images
are large and take a little while to download, but I think you'll find
they're worth the wait. Of course, the down side is, MGLM (my other lego
site) had to be taken down. There's only so much webspace on the server. I
think the new site more than makes up for it though.

I hope you enjoy it!

| Dave these Mechs are amazing! I must say I was'nt familair with your work untill the Mecha Hall of Fame appeared on Brickshelf. David I really like your Mecha and your style of building, this pix in particular is awesome: (URL) is cool to me not (...) (23 years ago, 19-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

| That's some really fine work, David. The presentation of the site's quite nice too. I don't really like the images opening up in a separate window, but that's a personal preference on my part. Otherwise, fabulous mecha! Adrian -- www.brickfrenzy.com (...) (23 years ago, 19-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

| Holly kookamundo! Very, very, very nice models. That new one is just amazing! Is it supposed to to be microfig scale? Some of the equipment around it looks like it... The diarama and site rock too! It's nice to see some of your older stuff again too (...) (23 years ago, 19-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

| WOW! Simply amazing Dave. The "Warhammer" redefines micro-fig bipedal mecha. It's so beautiful; excellent work! I love the new mecha site. The stylized images remind of the comic-book story boards seen in Max Payne (PC game). Very, very cool... (...) (23 years ago, 19-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

| In lugnet.build.mecha, David Thomas Jr. writes: (snip) (...) Absolutely! I've enjoyed your mecha for some time now. Every mecha builder has sort of a different style; yours definitely resonates with me! I love the detail on your mecha, and the way (...) (23 years ago, 19-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

| (...) David, this is a fantastic looking site! I love the design. It doesn't surprise me that Sun would let you use the name, he's a stand-up kinda' guy! Like Eric, I wasn't terribly familiar with your building style until I saw it at the Mecha Hall (...) (23 years ago, 19-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

| I forgot to mention just how much I love the way you detailed everthing to look like it's in nanofig scale. The 'stairway' and passageway to the right of the mecha do so much to reinforce the scale that you work at. Fantastic! -Dave (23 years ago, 19-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

| (...) Wow Dave! It's really nice to see you back in action! You have been so quiet lately I thought you left Lugnet. That is a killer page. I love the filters you used on the wallpapers. The actual interior of the Mecha Factory is fantastic! I wish (...) (23 years ago, 20-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

| (...) It took me a while but I think I've been able to build a reasonable gundam head at minifig scale. Just needed to use a combination of odd and even widths, horizontal and vertical stacking... the usual tricks of the trade. (...) It depends on (...) (23 years ago, 21-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)
