Something interesting in the mech world... —Matthew Gerber
Hey Mechyfriends, So...I was in Toys "backwards-facing-R" Us the other day, and what do I see? K*Nex has secured the Mechwarrior license (Microsoft owns that line now, right?), and has produced (what I HATE to admit) a really good looking line. (I (...)      AARRGGHH! Must resist, can't, but I must! nooo...ooo! Muahahahahaha! cries the K-nex emperor! I have you now! you can not escape! NOOOOOO! Must-not-buy-stupid-K-nex! But it is so frickin cool! AHHHHH I hate you Lego! why couldn't you have done (...) (23 years ago, 1-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

Re: Something interesting in the mech world... —Travis Dickinson
I read about this in an issue of ToyFare a month or so ago. There was a picture of the Timber Wolf/Mad Cat model, and it did look good. Travis Dickinson (...) (23 years ago, 1-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

Re: Something interesting in the mech world... —Steve Lane
(...) What a load of rubbish the K'nex product is. It looks like trash. This must be their answear to the successful Star Wars line. Lego should retaliate with a Robotech/Macross line. I'd love a Lego Destroid Monster or a YF-19. The worst thing (...) (23 years ago, 1-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands, lugnet.lego.direct)

(...) Ever heard the phraze 'if you don't ask you don't get', It was only a suggestion anyway, it's not like I was expecting them to say 'ah what a great idea'. It's not such a bad idea, I bet the Star Wars licenced sets sold a lot more than the (...) (23 years ago, 2-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

Re: Something interesting in the mech world... —Bryce McGlone
Personally I don't want Lego making anything mecha. I want a genre that is untouched by their "master builders". A place where I can still build what I want and NOT have it compared to Legoland or some store display. Also (and I know I'm in the (...)        (...) I saw a silouette of the millenium Falcon in the Lego catalogue before it's release, I couldn't beleive it when I saw the model, it was terrible. Those Grey UFO 90 degree plates look awful! It's probably been discussed to death in the Star (...) (23 years ago, 3-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)

Re: Something interesting in the mech world... —Frank Filz
(...) Sort of too late... True, LOM isn't really a mecha theme, but Roboraiders was. Also true these aren't licensed themes. (...) If we take that reasoning to extreme, then we should hate LEGO for making any sets which build models at all. I've got (...)           Re: Something interesting in the mech world... —Dave Johann
(...) Well, Frank, many folks will fight you on using Roboraiders as a definition of Lego mecha... for the most part they weren't very well designed and the articulation was terrible. (...)         Re: Something interesting in the mech world... —Christopher Snead
(...) I actually like K'nex; for a different building system, it ain't so bad. At least they were bold enough to recognize the market for build-your-own-mech toys. Lego is still riding high off of their SW contract, but I suspect that will run dry (...) (23 years ago, 1-Aug-01, to lugnet.build.mecha, lugnet.off-topic.clone-brands)
