New Mecha: Grelnix

Completed X-mas Day 2007.

6 weeks to construct.

Enjoy!

Thank’s for shareing Eric, I’m happy you restarted building!

Season’s Greetings Marco!
The Grelnix seems to me the perfect symbiosis of Rizmit (my alltime Fav up to
now) and the Beesh.
But there are some things which are much better as with those two:
  • The proportions are much more in balance. Grelnix has a very human shape.

The Rizmit was always meant to be cartoony and it made use of those kinds of proportions for ‘its’ looks.

The Beeesh to me, was meant to look and be like a little gremlin.

The Grelnix was designed to fit somewhere in between. Aside from the Skrylitch, I needed another mech that had more human proportions.

  • The overall design is nearly studless. This is amazing at such a size.

It sort of just worked out like that. Using long and rounded type slopes, along with some tile work to keep a nice finished look.

Where did the parts come from? Did you start disassembling older models?

I got a donation of the rounded slopes that came from Pick-a-Brick.

I also purchased some Pick-a-Brick from both online and at the Lego Store. I used a $50 gift cert. for the online purchase.

I also brought some sets from Target, like a Ferrari set plus a few Exo-Force and Bionicle sets for the ball joints I used in the inner shoulders, inner hips and ankles.

I had four clear and black technic turntables, plus an all black one.

Then I ordered two more black and clear ones from Shop @ Home. Which reminds me, I counted wrong when I wrote my post.

There are 8 technic turntables, and the knees use Robo Rider Gear Boxes, not Throwbot Gear Boxes. (Correction)
   I saw
a picture of your mom disasembling a mecha.

Was Keith there?

Yes, the Red Quad was taken a part along with the old Zolqwith Speed Suit and Mech Bay 11.
   Again, a fantastic build.

Thank you!

I need to take a few more photos of the pilots and the rocket pack. Maybe a couple close ups of the spine too.

Btw, the hips have a turntable on top of them. Then there is a Throw Bot Gear Box on top of that for the spine bend. Then there is another turntable on top of that for a total of two in the spine.

This turntable and throw bot gear box, then second turntable set up allows for a third combined movement, sort of like tilting sideways action.

Thought I would mention it. Since it is hard to see and pretty much hidden.
   Best wishes
Marco
