Nothing really to get. Its just a fun concept. Practicality is irrelevant.
|
The Type E is built very much with old tech... the articulation pretty much
depends on studs and technic friction pins (I used some of the original black
pins for some extra grip at the main weight bearing joints). No ball joints
or click hinges for me!
|
Theres some nice poseablilty in there, and the fact you did it with such
simple joint tech is impressive.
|
I am very happy with the poseability of the Type E, and have achieved several
of the poses I wanted to achieve (pics below). I think many mecha have
problems folding their arms, touching their toes or adopting a sprinters
crouch. I guess though, that the poseability is achieved partly, at least,
through the sacrifice of decoration. No armour or weapons for the Type E!
|
It certainly has a distinctive look. I reckon its less a mecha (which normally
would have room for a minifig pilot) than it is a human sized robot. Further
decoration is uneccesary. However, youve got a pretty reasonable looking frame
there too, and it would be fairly easy to add more decorative elements. Youll
probably exceed the limits of the strength in those joints fairly quickly
though.
|
Theres probably some more refinements to the Type E to come. The ankles
dont twist, for instance, and the shoulders are probably a bit too wide as
well. Any feedback or suggestions would be most welcome.
|
The shoulders look about right to me. Narrow shoulders tend to look a bit wimpy.
You could fairly easily add some hip splay by adding a rotating joint to the
thigh similar to the one on the upper arm. I cant think of an easy solution to
the ankle twist, but with hip splay, the need for that is reduced anyway.
Anyway, nice first effort.
Cheers,
Allister
