Ahoy,
Im not much of a space builder, and Im not much of a technic builder either,
and I must confess that I just dont get mecha, either.
But there is something about building robots that is pretty cool, and the
achievement of almost biomechanical articulation in MOCs always impresses me. So
a bit more that a year ago, I thought Id see what I could do. I wanted to put
as much articulation in as possible, in a small a size as seemed reasonable.
It wasnt until the fifth full iteration (hence Type E) that I came close to
achieving what Id set out to do
and even then, despite showing it in another
forum about a year ago, it sat (literally) on a shelf until I made some final
touches. The hips were too wide (I believe a common problem with mecha), and I
woke up at 3am the other morning when the solution came to me in a dream
(seriously!), and went and fixed them straight away. The hips are now two studs
narrower not quite snakehips, but much nicer nonetheless.
The Type E is built very much with old tech... the articulation pretty much
depends on studs and technic friction pins (I used some of the original black
pins for some extra grip at the main weight bearing joints). No ball joints or
click hinges for me!
I am very happy with the poseability of the Type E, and have achieved several of
the poses I wanted to achieve (pics below). I think many mecha have problems
folding their arms, touching their toes or adopting a sprinters crouch. I guess
though, that the poseability is achieved partly, at least, through the sacrifice
of decoration. No armour or weapons for the Type E!
So, here it is, the Space Brique Type E:
Theres probably some more refinements to the Type E to come. The ankles dont
twist, for instance, and the shoulders are probably a bit too wide as well. Any
feedback or suggestions would be most welcome.
Cheers

| (...) Nothing really to 'get'. It's just a fun concept. Practicality is irrelevant. (...) There's some nice poseablilty in there, and the fact you did it with such 'simple' joint tech is impressive. (...) It certainly has a distinctive look. I (...) | Hello Richie! First time as I saw your "Space Brique Type E Mecha" & "...F.." I think, oh what uglily Mechas. Days later, today, I take a longer look on your Mechas. And now I am very surprised, they are very amazing! Giant technik that you use, a (...) (18 years ago, 21-Dec-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)
