comparative anatomy

Looks like a perfectly reasonable and complete Iron Mecha contest entry... but it isn’t.

I won’t really be done until the end of the month. :-)

cruel shoes

The foot design kept looking like wooden clogs to me somehow, so I deviated from the image. I considered smoothing the legs with tiles, but I like the stud texture.

sharp heels

A major discovery in building this was significant role of the heels. The heels bear more load than the toes, and need to be attached with an internal girder pinned to the core leg bone or they’d shear right off. They take a lot of the strain off the thigh joints in the desired pose. The heels help so much that I put heels on the back legs, even though they aren’t visible in the source mecha image.

I also liked the red hose detail from the prototype so much that I refashioned it into a pseudo shock absorber. Looks like an aftermarket performance mod.

standing tall

The knee joints are still exposed. Imagine that this is what the knees in the original image would look like without dust covers.

Action poses:

gun traverse

nose down posture

enemy sneaking up on your left flank!

(...) I'm telling mommy that you stole my design! Very detailed and dare I say acurate design. I'm still loving the decals. I like the gun down picture the best. Now back to work :-) (19 years ago, 12-Jan-06, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

(...) Umm...I think it's safe to declare the winner now. ;-) Unless you deck this thing out in clickits and throw in a galidor figure, I'm quite certain you have the prize pegged. ::grin:: Brian/K, I definitely think the design stays true to the (...)
