First off, the coolest part about this mecha are the legs. They are absolutely beautiful. The wheels fit in perfectly and the ladders as detail are awesome. The rockets at an independant angle from the leg are so sweet. What makes the legs so cool is the fact that they look like they are chunks of solid steel protecting that gorgeous frame inside.

Thanks Geordan! I actually didn’t think of the legs that way when I made them, but I like the way you describe them! :-D

On to that turret now. I’ve had a week to chew this one over and I’ve spent a fair deal of time looking at it but I’m still not sure what I think about it entirely. On one hand, it’s quite possibly the most freaking cool thing I’ve seen on a quadruped mecha. As soon as I saw it I knew where you’d nabbed your inspiration from and you did a really good job conveying that idea. The fanned armor looks absolutely incredible and you did a completely perfect job of it. What’s getting me is that it doesn’t seem to fit with the feel of the rest of the mecha. It looks fragile in comparison to the rest of the mecha which is extremely solid looking. Making them thicker might do it but I dunno. I’m really not super certain of what I’m saying either, the turret just doesn’t feel 100% right to me.

Yah, maybe it’s because the turret is a lot more faceted and complex, whereas the legs are smoother and, as you mentioned above, more like protective shells. I think the turret would work better on a larger scale, where I could cover up more of the gaps and odd angles, and thus make it more of a “whole”. I could also stiffen the armoured plating; as you accurately observed, they are quite fragile.

Just looking at the mecha without fiddle faddling over the technicalities of design though, this mecha is really quite awesome. The optical equipment on top is so so so cool. I always try to come up with cool stuff like that, but you always do it first. =P

The cockpit as usual is incredible, and very nicely detailed. The sand green accents on your weapons are very cool (I love that color) and of course, those rocket launchers are superb.

Thanks again.

This is such a sweet mecha, I just wish I could figure out entirely what’s bothering me about the turret. I think it’s just the conflicting styles or something, I dunno. You have any thoughts?

Yep, see my comments above. I agree, there is a degree of conflict between the two. I think if you scaled up the turret (along with the legs, of course) the two would jive better.

Awesome stuff, I definitely will be toying around with the lower structure you’ve made there. I love it.

Thanks once again for the reply, Geordan!
