Kyle!
I must say a week ago I ventured in to check out the newest Vrieze creation and
was quite sorely disappointed. Upon initial inspection it looked like you had
ditched completely the perfect, refined form that you had achieved with the
spider tank and gone for what appeared to be a quick bipedal rush job.
Ive spent quite a bit of time examining these though and as soon as I started
looking at some of the finer points my opinion changed quite a bit.
As models of Front Mission mecha, I dont think these work at all, but as
Vrieze-Lego-mecha, these are really freaking sweet. Ill echo Mladen and say
that they are too small to represent the model you have them next to there, but
the fact that they are so small and compressed is what makes them so cool as
your own mecha.
The form youve struck with these is absolutely dead on pefect. Theyre wide AND
deep. The upper legs you made are such a cool idea. The deep thighs fit so
nicely with the shallow lower legs and the super long feet. They give a really
nice heavy feel. They also lend the mecha an impression of being very tank like.
The thighs create sort of a platform making the body look like a turret with
arms.
Its cool that all of the major joints are balljoints as well. Nice job fitting
them in so neatly.
The way you made the cockpit and its door is so cool. The whole 4 wide package
youve made there is really superb.
The weapons youve created are awesome. Theyre all really chunky and they fit
perfectly. They further bulk up the mecha really nicely.
I love the picture of them in the dropship. They look made to be deployed that
way.
Okay, now the bad stuff. =P
The reason why I was so taken aback at first look was because though youve
nailed the overall feel, the individual shapes that make up the whole mecha are
not very well executed. With your spider tank everything was really tight and
well defined, but here, it seems that there are alot areas that didnt go
through alot of refinement. I can assume that this is intentional, as from the
awesome color scheme its obvious that youre going for the rugged military
look. I think you could have made it look more grungy without sacrificing the
shapes though. If everything were a little more fleshed out, you would have the
pefect small, grunt mecha.
I cant say all that while pretending like youve done this before either
though, and as your first bipedal mecha with arms, this is a thoroughly blazing
success. I truly cant wait to see what you cook up next, your building really
excites me - alot. =D
Awesome stuff,
See ya

After Mladen posted his Stalwart, I wanted to do a mech design inspired by the Wanzers from the
Front Mission series of games. Ive never played the game, but I have a
Wanzer toy that I posed with the two MOABs so you can get the idea.
This is the first time Ive done a mech with arms, hands and a head. I used
Todd Amachers hand design, and the head was inspired by Mokos Gundam heads.
Something of Sorens always works itself in, and this time its his
muzzle-brake cannon barrel.
My second objective was to build something larger than a power armor that can
carry an entire fig and still fit in my dropship. One of the guys in the
Classic Space forum basically said, whats with all the wasted space in
there?, and he was right. It was a tight squeeze, but I can get both MOABs
and all their weapons into the Aggressor.
Ill acknowledge that the color schemes arent as tight as Id like, due to
parts availability, but otherwise Im happy with how these turned out.
Enjoy, comments welcome!

| (...) Wow, thanks for the thorough review! I wouldn't argue with the idea that the MOAB is not as good a mech as the Spider Tank. Everything just came together for me on that Spider, and I still don't know if I'll ever equal that effort. I'm glad (...) (19 years ago, 27-Jun-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)
