Backstory: I had planned to forego any Lego purchases in 2004 due to my boycott of bley. I was happy about the new parts and colors, but thought they should be additions rather than substitutions for the older greys.

was released and I knew my boycott was officially over. I put it together later that day and loved every aspect of this model save for one: the colors. Orange and Sand Blue just don’t work well together IMHO. I decided to swap out one of them entirely. Sand blue wasn’t an option (at the time) due to some of the parts involved, but I was happy to see that the orange could be replaced. 95% of the orange was replaced, and only one orange part was visible in the leg when all was said and done. Dark Red seemed to be the obvious choice given the parts involved, but I also subbed in light grey and dark grey in those spots where I knew it wouldn’t show.

I built this within days of the official set release, and had it sitting on my desk for most of the time since. LUGOLA saw it at the January ‘05 meeting, but I didn’t have any pics ready for public consumption until now. Ordniarily, I would never post pics of a recolored Lego creation, but I was so impressed with the outcome that I wanted to share this with the community.

T XP R is now parted out, but I wanted it to live on in pictures. Why take it apart? It is a bit unwieldy, collects dust like mad, and I needed the parts for upcoming MOCs.

FYI, I did figure out that the Sand Blue could be easily replaced with Tan, but beyond that I didn’t really research for other colors.

Comments and questions welcome.

Dave, this re-color looks so cool! I wish the company had replaced the orange with dark red. Even better if they also replaced the sand blue with tan, or even keeping the sand blue, and giving us tan instead of black. (19 years ago, 28-Apr-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

(...) -snip- Dave, I first saw the Titan XP fully built at Rob Limbaugh's house. His son built it and I was impressed by the shape and form of the Mecha. (except for the antenna sticking up on the head!) Then my girl friend built it while I was (...) (19 years ago, 28-Apr-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

(...) Hi Dave, this is sure the best looking Titan XP I saw up to now. Really nice. I would've liked to see it with the sand blue replaced by tan too. But i can understand that you now take the parts for new own creations. I sorrowfull have to do (...) (19 years ago, 28-Apr-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

Cool Dave! I hadn't appreciated that you replaced all the parts the same. I figured you just used something close. Awesome man. We should get a bunch of these and just tack on our own color schemes, could be fun to see waht people come up with. Like (...) (19 years ago, 29-Apr-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)
