Here is the Stormwalker.
Hope you like it

Yeah! Ill say I like it.

First of all, Thank you for this. I really do feel honored hearing this from
you. I found two pictures on the NET 9 month ago showing LEGO mecha. The first
was the Black Mamba MKII (you may have seen it from time to time) and the second
was the Rizmit by Eric Sophie.
|
Cool, here goes my commentary:
*Wicked looking mechwarrior style battle mech
*Big beefy weapons
*Looks pretty darn cool
*Tandem Style cockpit
*Engine with folding cowling!
*Simple color scheme is good with yellow interior highights
-Feet are too small
-Body is too small (see my notes below)
-extra leg member in hip seems unneccesary
Let me guess. the body is the size it is because once you started building a
body, you found Stormwalker wanted to fall over on a whim. In an effort to
keep it standing, you lowered the center of gravity by shortening the height
of the body. One way to counteract that small body is to enlongate and
widen it. The lack of height is made up in bulk. Especially since you have
wide hips going on there, the narrow body is also emphasized.
|
Sorry Mark, but youre wrong. I thought of a fast attacking aggresive looking
machine. Weight on the body would only be ballast. It is a bit tricky to get it
to a stable stand. But if its once standing it is...
As I mentiond in my reply to Kyle Im thinking of rebuilding the side beams to
get more width (and space for weaponary).
|
Do you find much wobbliness due to the foot size as well? Does a longer foot
improve stabliliity? What is the reasoning for the second member in the hip?
Is one inadequate for hip splay articulation?
|
I never tried larger feet on Stormwalker. Could be a good idea to give it some
larger feet. So I could improve articulation.
The mystery of the second member in the hip:
The very first idea I had for Stormwalker was a hip looking like a w. I wanted
the body to sit on the front in the middle. To achive this form I made several
attemps and ended with a quadrupel geard hip. then I found one benefit of this
construction, which kept me from stiffening the inner gears. It is possible to
shift the point of gravity forward and back when needed to counteract the
movement resulting from the leg positioning. Only the outer hip gears are needed
to splay the feet.
|
Dude, wow. I like it. Its fun seeing your stuff as it comes out. (also,
consider your risk as to a hippy status is completely removed.) ;)
|
Thank you Mark. Especially for the one in brackets...
|
Build on! (and spotlighted)

The same to you! Build on!
I like it. Its fun seeing your stuff as it comes out.
