Nice. You wrote the Gigantor theme song too, didn’t you. :-)

For those not familiar with Brian’s inspiration, here’s a photo of a Giant Robo toy with its weapons deployed: http://www.japanesetoylink.com/Yamato/Sci-Fi/YAM-GTR002.htm. (Thank you, Google Image Search.)

The toy has even freakier proportions than the animated version, with that teeny tiny pin head. I made mine proportioned somewhere between the original Giant Robo from the movie (man in robot suit) and the one in the anime series. Cervantes: “Giant Robo is not a toy!”

Great photos, Brian -- except for the black fists against the black background. Maybe some special photos of just those, against white?

The GRD might not be posable, but it needs a stop-motion film built around it. Workers scurrying, mech bay gantries retracting, weapons deploying, mail getting delivered; music pounding in the background. With Photoshopped glow-glare to the eyes. (No shiny metal sparkles, though -- this is definitely a bot with a matte finish.)

Today I uploaded some more pictures to Brickshelf that you can see post moderation. GR-D indeed does have a hidden mega stereo speaker bank to play pounding music. It’s powered by a nuclear reactor, so it should have plenty of wattage.

Okay, now somebody needs to build a replica of the Big O, complete with >Final Resort Secret Chest Cannon of Single-Shot Ultimate Doom....

I was thinking about it at one time, particularly because the massive arm structures might be interesting to build. I also liked the flying Big Duo.

(...) Is that an unintentional Macross 7 parade? :D Great job. Do you have any photo with the eyes lighted up? Right now it looks like it got no eyes. (20 years ago, 7-Jan-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)
