Hello all,

I was recently at TRU, and came across a new designer set called “Robo Platoon”. It was along the same lines as the original “Mini-Bots” set that lego offered last year. So, I bought one, because I have to support Lego’s continued interest in producing mecha sets.

That being said, I noticed there was room for improvent; for instance, the mecha could use Torsos, legs which did more that just spread, arms with elbows and shoulders, and so on.

So, last Thursday evening, I set out to create a more evolved robo platoon:

These microbots were made using parts from the robo platoon set, the minibot team set and some technic pneumatic tees that I usually use for wrists on my larger mecha. I initally tried to keep the feel of the robo platoon set, but the red and the tan bot took on personalities of their own, and they continue to evolve.

For microscale bots, they are pretty robust; I tried to avoid using studs for frictiion.

Later,

Chris

(...) I saw these on Brickshelf and came looking for your post to compliment you. Fantastic. I'm gonna start putting Mecas into my games, and I think I shall start with your designs!! Matt (20 years ago, 14-Dec-04, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)

Did these sets have the new 1x1 claw plate in red and blue? If not, where did you get those from? LOVE that piece!! The mechas are all fantastic. Excellent proportions and poseability is aces. The booster/wing combo on the blue one is my favorite. (...) (20 years ago, 15-Dec-04, to lugnet.build.mecha)

(...) don't you just love the simplicity of the smaller mecha? your little guys look great! nice proportions. that blue one has an anime look to it with those jet-thingies (love my technical jargon?). the use of the t-valve has become a staple in (...)
