Lets review.
Steps 1 - 8
Head, hands, chest, shoulders, waist, hips, now, legs and feet.
#9
Make some Legs
In the last steps, we created some hips. Begin to create some connections to
the upper Leg. Consider using ball joints, click boxes, worm gears, 1x4 hinges,
or what ever you feel is best for the scale your working at.
Keep in mind that the outer edges of the hips should be around the same
position as the shoulder joints. The arms of your Mecha should be able to
freely hang down with out hitting the upper legs and hips.
At this point in the construction, begin the upper leg connection from the
hips, down to the knees. Consider using a good joint system to bear the weight
of the entire Mecha. In this picture, you can see I used a heavy duty gear box
from the Robo-rider sets:
Some times, because of the angles and orientation of the joints and
surrounding structures, you may need to turn an angle or match up your
brick/stud orientation. Consider making that tranistion at this point of the
construction. The upper leg area just above the knee is a good place for this
is you can, depending again on what parts you are using as well as the scale
you are working at.
At this point feel free to stop and rebuild what you have, or take a break from
this section and begin the feet, this will help you to work towards the other
construction you began on the legs. This also helps you to take a fresh look at
what you have already built by starting a new section.

Make some Feet
The feet are by far one of the most important parts of your Mecha.
The not only help you Mecha stand, but they give the Mecha alot of its
personnality.
Consider making the feet simular in style to the head and hands of your
Mecha. This helps gel the overall form of the Mecha together for a clean
look. Youll need to use a good joint system for the feet.
Sometimes you can either give the feet the ability to spin, splay, and pivot.
Only include the motions you feel are the most needed. Depending on the
scale you are working at you may want to leave some motion out or attempt to
include them.
Give your feet as large of a footprint as possible, this will help your
Mecha stand up and keep its balance. Use parts to create the toes that are
cool and look like the parts you used in the head and hands if possible.
Once you have created a foot you like, replicate it and begin working
towards attaching them to the legs you have started. Once you have completed
the attachments, your ready to stand your Mecha up.
Use your knowlegde of your own body to help stand the Mecha up. Try to stand
the legs so the oppose eachother. Meaning, torque the legs against eachother
and use the arms of your Mecha to help balance it.
There you have it!
You Made a Mech!
This is a super basic outline. If you have further questions, post them
here, or visit the Lego Mecha Hall of Fame to see how other builders
tackled the various challanges of building Mecha.

Good Luck, and have fun!
