Hehe, I noticed
|
before i delve into your mecha review, i just wanted to give you a couple of
lighting tips: first off, ive found diffused daylight to be the best source
of light for photos. taking pictures of your mecha either outside in the
shade or on a cloudy day produces the perfect lighting effect that is both
subtle and even. i also recommend some kind of photo-enhancing software (i
use photoshop 7.0) to help increase the desired lighting effect on each
photo.
|
Actually some of the pics are already touched with photoshop. As for the
lighthing tips, thanks, but thatd mean id only be able to publish my mecha in
the summer, I live in the netherlands and you not exactly gonna get windles
sunny days mid winter here ;)
|
now for the review: for your first successful mecha, i am awestruck! you
have utilized, very efficiently, many joint techniques that have become
staples in this hobby: plate hinge joints, click hinges, gla-glas feet and
hands from his armature, etc. youve really done your homework!
|
Well you read the site for a few months and you pick up some things. I learned
from the best. ;)
|
i never got
really good at mecha building myself until i did extensive research. your
mecha looks very solid, well proportioned (dig those shoulders and legs), and
the color scheme works (though it is a bit sporadic for my taste).
|
Its solid alright, its fallen over plenty of times but the damn thing simply
wont break, lol. Also, I didnt really think about the color scheme to much. I
just wanted to make a mech that could do some poses but could still stand on its
own. And have that spinder thing, hehe.
|
i have to
ask you this: did you get the spider-on-the-back idea from the first manga
spawn action figure? i have one and it does the exact same thing. im not
reprimanding you for plagiarism, but rather complimenting you on
incorporating the idea into your mecha (lets face it--very few of us
actually create works that are not influenced by other designs).
|
If you watch gundam seed, at teh end of the series the Freedom Gundam is
revealed. It looks like strike but has 4 lasers on its back wich deploy in a
similiar way to waht ive done. I wanted the weapons to be on its back and swing
forward when needed. Then I just started brainstorming on what kind of weapons
id like, offcourse when I saw Freedom Gundam in action I knew what to build,
hehe.
|
i also like its posability, though i would like to see more than the standing
and crouching positions--show me its limits!
|
To be honest, those are just about the limits, hehe. The joint i used for the
shoulders dont allow the mech to point its arms left and right. The actual
shoulders prevent this, as they hit the upper torso when you try and move it to
far. Also, the shoulders are quite heavy, and that pack on its back doesnt make
it idealy balanced for poses ;).
|
also, being a huge weapon fan, i
would love to see zeus toting some serious hardware. overall, and excellent
mecha for your first time. perhaps you can refine your earlier attempts
and post them as well.
|
Dont worry then, my next mecha is gonna be something a bit more grunt like. Il
pack it with some nice bazookas and MGs ;)
Also, I dont have that many parts. Im still in school, so I cant really work
that much for money. Little money I do have also goes into other things then
lego, hehe. So because of the scarse parts deal, my mecha will mostly consist of
red and black. Also, I like to fill the entire coffe table with lego parts and
just mind storm over what I can do with them. Those parts often come from
already built mecha, so Zeus is already in parts heaven by now ;). If only I had
enough parts, I wouldve liked to keep him assembled.
Thanks for the critz m8!, preciate it =)
