I tend to say "mech" for two reasons: I paid attention in Battletech before
I started paying attention to Robotech; and when I say "mecha" most people ask
if I've ever made the hadj. "Mech" is also in use in other places, and is
therefore more easily recognized as something to do with machinery; e.g. "mech
engineering" is short-speak for "mechanical engineering".
