So here's the idea that a friend and I came up with.

We're building a setup that would completely automate (or as much as • possible,
automate) the process of having a lego design contest.  We'd like to start
having conpetitions running soon, as we've got a lot of the backend done
already.  We wanted to have different types of competitions (dioramas, • limited
size, unlimited size) and have that in it as well.  I think we've come up • with
about 9 different "theme ideas" so far for contests.  The goal is to have • the
amount of time to manage and officiate a contest with this to be under • 30min
in total over the contest's life.  [More time to look, build, and • daydream.]

So does this sound like a good idea, or am I off in outer space?

Well, sounds like a fine idea to me :-)

My only concern is there is getting to be so many contests that we may soon
move into overkill mode, especially if it's almost no effort to run one. At
the moment the number is kept down to a dull roar by the fact that it does
take some work.

(...) Yeah, that's the one concern I've had. I know that if you try to host contests that require lots of effort, the hoster gets burnt out quickly. But if it takes little effort then the participants can easily get burnt. I know that it took the (...) (23 years ago, 19-Feb-02, to lugnet.build.contests)
