What colour should a Supermarine Spitfire be?

Right now it is green overall with the underside of the wings and fuselage in light grey. It also has D-day invasion markings on the bottom as well ( black and white stripes on the bottom rear part of the fuselage) At this point lego doesn't make a (...)   Re: What colour should a Supermarine Spitfire be?

Geordan, Most Wartime Spitfires were of a brown, and 2 shade green color, while Photo recon spits were a pale blue shade. Some USAAF and RAF spitfires as well as RN seafires were in a pale grey color that the light grey lego shade approximates very (...) (23 years ago, 2-Aug-01, to lugnet.build, lugnet.general)

Re: What colour should a Supermarine Spitfire be?

(...) Yeah I thought of making the spitfire two tone of tan and green or something like that, but the results aren't very apealing, it is impossible to get smooth camo lines with lego, that's why I figured that I may do decals instead, I'm still (...)   Re: What colour should a Supermarine Spitfire be?

Geordan, I found some info on a modelling page. Check this page out (URL) are some color photos of some spitfires under the aircraft reference section, and some profiles a bit lower down under the heading "Camouflage and Markings of No. 74 Sqn RAF (...)   Re: What colour should a Supermarine Spitfire be?

Thanks! Great pages with lots of pics! I've gotten about a three foot pile of books on WWII aircraft and spits over the past two weeks so I'm up to my knees in resources ( literally!) Thanks for the idea! I'm toying now with using lots of 1x1 plates (...) (23 years ago, 2-Aug-01, to lugnet.build, lugnet.general)

Re: What colour should a Supermarine Spitfire be?

I've settled on the colours after fiddlin with the CAD format of the spit, it's either going to be brown and green mixed together, or tan and green mixed. Neither of them look half bad IMO. (...) (23 years ago, 3-Aug-01, to lugnet.build, lugnet.general)

Re: What colour should a Supermarine Spitfire be?

(...) G'day Geordan, You might be interested in trying the "verdigris" light green used in the Statue of Liberty set for the underside. Mind you that could be expensive, and I don't know what pieces are available. I can't recall specifically seeing (...) (23 years ago, 3-Aug-01, to lugnet.build, lugnet.general)

Re: What colour should a Supermarine Spitfire be?

(...) Thanks for the help! I had not yet considered verdigris green yet. Hmmmm it should work, I'll see. (...) Yeah I considered the tan/brown combo, but that would be suiting more for a mescherschmidt (sp?) or maybe a p-40/p-47. (...) Imitation (...)   Re: What colour should a Supermarine Spitfire be?

(...) It does work! It looks realy nice too. Fits in with the green and brown nicely, I'll probably use it. (...) Well I did some research, and whadaya know? A desert coloured spit! I don't thinik I'll use it though as I don't really apeal to that (...) (23 years ago, 3-Aug-01, to lugnet.build, lugnet.general, lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade)
