We received a flyer in the mail from Learning Express* yesterday that
mentioned
that LEGO is sponsoring a Throwbots building contest - details are on the
LEGO
web site (supposedly). Anyone checked this out yet? I would do it now but
since
I am currently sitting on an airplane it is a little difficult to achive a
connection to
the web ;-)

* Learning Express is a toy store chain (not sure how national it is) that
features
mostly educational toys. Their LEGO prices (at least the one near me) tend
to
be higher than normal but the store does a lot for the community. For
example,
a school or children's organization can sponsor a "buying night" where the
proceeds
from sales during a several hour period go to the "host" organization. I'll
spend a
few extra bucks to help out my community. The store near me also had a cool
LEGO
event last summer where they dumped several bussels (sp?) or miscellaneous
LEGO
pieces on the floor in their store and invited kids (and adults!) to build.
They lined up
all of the models (> 200 I think) up in front of the store. Great selection
of pieces in
the buckets they had as well except they had virtually no wheels. Since my
son is
primarily into vehicles, this proved to be a challenge but eventually we
located enough
for each of us to have four.

| I picked up a Throwbots set over the weekend, and I was having a fairly good time exploring the different ways in which the ball-and-socket elements combine. Not an extensive array of combinations, to be sure, but they would seem to have their (...) (26 years ago, 2-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)
