My Latest MOC: 1.4m Boom Crane —Jeff Elliott
Hi all, Thought I'd post a photo of my latest creation, a technic boom crane. (URL) genesis of this MOC is that I'm building a Lego cubicle divider at work. Naturally, for such a large scale project, a large crane is needed (duh! :D) So I set about (...) (24 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.build, lugnet.technic)

Re: My Latest MOC: 1.4m Boom Crane —Robert G. Fay
Very impressive, Jeff. Looks like you did a very good job of creating all of the structures required of the real thing. I like the use of axles for the cross bracing of the tower. That should be effective with the friction of so many connectors. If (...) (24 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.build, lugnet.technic)

Re: My Latest MOC: 1.4m Boom Crane —Jeff Elliott
Thanks, Bob, I've taken several more pics of the crane, and uploaded them to Brickshelf. (URL) comments: The turntable is enclosed, since it was neccessary to provide tiles for the crane body to slide on. The base of the table is gray; the rotating (...)       The additional pictures are interesting. I like the turntable drive. You sure packed that into a small area. Very clever! -- Bob Fay California, USA rfay@we.mediaone.net (URL) (24 years ago, 9-Feb-01, to lugnet.build, lugnet.technic)

(...) Have you noticed the shaft with the worm gear turning unevenly (jumping)? If so it can be reduced by rotation one of the u-joints 90 deg relative to the other (so the slots line up, rather than 90 deg offset). This probably wouldn't affect the (...)       WOW!! Thats amazing, I'm stunned. Gary P.S. When do we get pictures of the cubicle devider? Jeff Elliott <jeffe@telepres.com> wrote in message news:3A82C528.A3B8C3...res.com... (...) (24 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.build, lugnet.technic)

(...) Here's some preliminary shots of my crane (URL)The main boom is about 1.4m from tip to hinge. The counterweight is a (...) I've had mine running to 1.8m, but while building it's been considerably shorter. I used fishing sinkers, contained in a (...) (24 years ago, 8-Feb-01, to lugnet.build, lugnet.technic)

(...) <snips galore> (...) (URL) my chief inspiration when I built my crane. Hats off to both of you! (...) I thought seriously about using the RCXs to auto-control the counterweight, but I wasn't sure exactly how hard it was to control, and I have (...)           Re: My Latest MOC: 1.4m Boom Crane —Ross Crawford
(...) Thanks! But I don't think I'll ever get close to Dennis' creations. I definitely tilt in the direction of functionality! As for height, each of my tower sections uses a lot of pieces, so even though I'd love to challenge his 4.2m, I don't (...) (24 years ago, 9-Feb-01, to lugnet.build, lugnet.technic)

(...) Ooops! Must've been those back roads! I figured some might've spilt out, but most of them were there in the box, and I couldn't be bothered counting! Feel free to throw them at me, Paul. ROSCO (24 years ago, 9-Feb-01, to lugnet.loc.au)

Re: My Latest MOC: 1.4m Boom Crane —Mark Peterson
Great crane. Have any of you seen a kroll crane in action? (URL) for some great crane pictures. (Click on applications then power plants) That is an awsome crane, I stood under this crane while it was being erected, They actually set 3 smaller (...)         Re: My Latest MOC: 1.4m Boom Crane —Ross Crawford
(...) Another great crane link! Thanks Mark! I really like the ones that can lift themselves to the desired height after being assembled at ground level. I wanted to do this with my crane but I ran out of motors, and parts to build tower modules, so (...) (24 years ago, 9-Feb-01, to lugnet.build, lugnet.technic)

Re: My Latest MOC: 1.4m Boom Crane —James Powell
(...) I've played with one (a model) that could do that. I wasn't shown how, so I didn't get to play with that function. The model had sensors on it (this is 1990 or so, it was started well before then...), and you couldn't overload it. Hours of (...) (24 years ago, 9-Feb-01, to lugnet.build, lugnet.technic)
