Hmmm. I have an old set of letters and numbers (incomplete now) that were stamped on the sides of white 1x1 elements. I understand about the need for a "pure" LEGO solution, but it's amazing what a bit of Letraset or even an inkjet printer on sticky (...) Yes, that would be sets 487 & 987 for the letters, and 488 & 988 for the numbers (the 400 series came in early/mid 60's, the 900 series came late 60's-early 70's). All of these sets were printed on 1x1 white bricks. I've got both of the number sets (...) (26 years ago, 1-Feb-99, to lugnet.build, lugnet.general, lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade)

(...) Man, I dunno. These are HUGE. 4 studs is almost the height of a minifig! They may be OK for things like theatre names going vertically or company names on the top of buildings, but at minifig scale, I don't see them as suited for much else, (...)
